Join the Greater Dallas Youth Orchestra this Sunday, March 6 at 8:00pm at the Meyerson Symphony Center, as we present One Thousand and One Tales of Young Virtuosos. The program includes Rouse’s The Infernal Machine, Sibelius’s Pohjola’s Daughter and Rimsky-Korsakov’s Scheherazade. We will also feature the 2015-2016 Concerto Competition Winner, Charlie Lin, performing the Sibelius Violin Concerto in D Minor.
Charlie Lin, violin, is a senior this year at Liberty High School in Frisco, Texas. Charlie was born in Plano, Texas and began studying violin at the age of 6 with Orit Beder. Currently, he studies with Jan Mark Sloman. He joined the Greater Dallas Youth Orchestra in 2013 and is currently concertmaster of the flagship ensemble.
He has played in his school orchestra and placed in the Texas All-Region and Symphonic All-State orchestras every applicable year since middle school. He has won first place in the Collin County Young Artist Competition, first place in the Hubbard Chamber Music Competition, and first place in the Dallas Symphonic Festival Competition. During the summers, he has attended the Sunflower Music Festival (2013) and the Montecito Music Festival (2014).
